FUNCTIONAL FAMILY THERAPY KICK-OFF HELD AT
JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE OF ATLANTIC COUNTY |
On Friday September 12th, over fifty dignitaries attended a kick-off for the Atlantic/Cape May Functional Family Therapy collaborative at Jewish Family Service’s office in Margate.
Cape Counseling and Jewish Family Service recently received a two hundred thousand dollar grant from the NJ Department of Behavioral Health Services to start a Functional Family Therapy program. Four therapists will serve approximately one hundred families annually.
Functional Family Therapy is an evidence- based in-home family intervention program which has been shown to be highly effective in stabilizing at-risk, juvenile justice-involved youth. FFT has been designated a model program for serving this population by the US Surgeon General.
Among the speakers were: Helen Midouhas, a National Functional Family Therapy Trainer and, Coordinator of the Pennsylvania State program and Clarence Whittaker, Division of Child Behavioral Health Services Constituent Affairs officer.
DCBHS staff, along with Jewish Family Service and Cape Counseling FFT staff, and other community agencies participated in the implementation program.

JFS IN NEED OF
CARING
JEWISH VOLUNTEERS
FOR EXPANDING HOSPICE PROGRAM
|
Jewish Family Service is looking for Jewish volunteers to be trained as Hospice Volunteers. Hospice is a philosophy of care accepting death as the final stage of life. The goal of hospice is to enable patients to continue an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by their loved ones. Spiritual care is very important to meet these goals. JFS will be offering a Jewish Hospice to help patients and their families find comfort in the spiritual wisdom and the traditions of their faith.
Due to the delicate nature of the program and the religious focus, pre-screening to qualify is required. Training will be provided and will run for four consecutive Tuesdays from 5:30 PM to 9 PM. Please call Adria Light at JFS at (609) 822-1108 or email her at alight@jfsatlantic.org for more information on the screening process. |
