Kick-off the new year with 10 unique, interactive, and entertaining in-person and virtual programs in January offered through JFS’ Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore. Plan to invite your friends, family, and neighbors to participate.

Thoughts from the Bookshelf

Tuesday, January 7 from 3pm to 4pm

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, the group will discuss the New York Times best-selling novel, Necessary Trouble: Growing Up at Mid-Century, by Drew Gilpin Faust. The coming of age book focuses on a conservative Southern family during the mid-20th century. The author, a former President of Harvard University, grapples with the contradictions of her privileged upbringing against the backdrop of racial segregation, evolving social norms, and becoming an activist for Civil Rights. Art Comes Alive: The Stories Behind the Masterpieces

Monday, January 13 from 10:30am to 12pm

Join award-winning artist Shirley Belitsky as she takes attendees on an exploration of artwork to discover what life experiences and stories each artist shares through their paintings. Put your knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design to work on interpreting and understanding each masterpiece. Light refreshments will be served. Village Film Society

Join Village Film Enthusiast & Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the 1947 American romantic fantasy comedy, The Bishop’s Wife, starring Cary Grant, David Niven, and Loretta Young. The plot focuses on an angel who helps the bishop with his problems. As the original New York Times review shared, “It comes very close to being the most enchanting picture of the year.” This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by January 9.

Your world in 60 minutes! Join a fast-paced discussion on neighborhood happenings, technology, social topics, world events, the arts, and more. Moderated by Village Community Specialist Tina Serota and Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, we’ll dine at The Queen Bean Bistro, 4800 Boardwalk (Vassar Square), Ventnor. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by January 14.

Join Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler as he presents an educational brunch program retracing the history of Atlantic City and Downbeach. This month’s program will focus on the Beth Kehillah Community Synagogue and the origins of Margate’s Beth El Synagogue. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. Memoir Workshop

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, JCC’s Bridget Giblin, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, and UMC’s Michele Musto as they host professional speakers on topics that support an individual’s ability to live their best life. Beth Simons, owner of The Pet Salon and University of Pet Education, Technology and Science in Margate, will share the latest in the benefits of health connection between people and their pets, therapy pets, best practices in care management, volunteering, and more. Memory Connections

Monday, January 27 from 1pm to 2:30pm

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, UMC’s Michele Musto, JCC’s Bridget Giblin, and Music Therapist Karen Mellita for a gathering of Caregivers of loved ones with Dementia and the person living with the disease. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one will enjoy a socialization activity. Light refreshments will be served. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. RSVP by January 22.

Memory Café: Ocean City

Tuesday, January 28 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Caregivers and their loved ones living with Dementia are invited to join Village and UMC representatives in a Dementia friendly space. Experience creativity and social connections through art, music, gentle movements, and more. Attend in-person at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City. RSVP by January 21.
