In November, The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service (JFS) will offer 11 interactive, entertaining and unique programs. Plan to participate with friends, family and neighbors and enjoy these virtual and in-person programs.

Lunch Around Town

Monday, November 4 from 12pm to 1:30pm

Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, we’ll dine at Fitzpatrick’s Deli & Steakhouse, 650 New Road, Somers Point. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually (cash only). RSVP by November 1.

Thoughts from the Bookshelf

Tuesday, November 5 from 3pm to 4pm

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, the group will discuss the novel, Such Kindness, by Andre Dubus III. The book focuses on Tom Lowe, whose working class identity and pride are invested in the job he performs until a terrible fall alters his life forever. The story takes readers on his journey from bitter helplessness to finding knowledge in his self-worth. Attend in-person at the Margate Library Meeting Room, 8100 Atlantic Avenue, Margate. Holiday Scams: The Unwanted Gift of Seasonal Swindles

With the holidays around the corner, many people will increase their shopping, travel, and celebrations with family, friends and colleagues. Each year, the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center receives an ever-growing record number of scam schemes that target consumers during the holiday season. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota and JCC’s Bridget Giblin as they welcome Justin Chubb from the Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union who will educate us about the latest in holiday fraud and how to avoid it. Village Film Society

Tuesday, November 12 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Village Film Enthusiast & Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Academy and Golden Globe Awards nominated film, Inherit the Wind, starring Spencer Tracy, Gene Kelly, Fredric March, and Dick York. The movie focuses on the 1920s trial of a Tennessee teacher who violated the Butler Act, a law that prohibits public schools from teaching evolution instead of creationism. The movie can be viewed for free on Tubi and Pluto TV or for a fee on Amazon Prime, Google Play Movies, Apple TV, YouTube and Fandango at Home. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed prior to the program. RSVP by November 7.

Researching Your Jewish Roots with JewishGen

Wednesday, November 13 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Avraham Groll, Vice President of JewishGen for the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, as he offers archival, historical, contextual and networking components people rely on when exploring their family roots. He will discuss common challenges people encounter researching family history, and how JewishGen can help with an overview of how to navigate key resources and features on the site. This program is presented by JFS’ Village by the Shore, Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton University, and the Katz JCC. Freedom Song: One Family’s Struggle with Addiction. One Nation’s Path to Recovery.

Thursday, November 14 at 6:30pm

This performance is an original musical production about addiction and recovery in the Jewish community. Freedom Song shatters the myth of Jews being immune to addiction by interweaving the story of Passover and personal stories of addiction. The cast is comprised of addicts in recovery from drugs, alcohol, gambling, and other destructive behaviors. Through song, dance, tears, laughter and a post-show discussion with the cast, Freedom Song, opens an honest conversation on the often stigmatized topic of addiction. Memoir Workshop

Experience the thrill of capturing life’s adventures, history, and ancestry with the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing, Harriet Levin Millan. Women’s Coffee & Conversation: Healthy Holidays & Beyond

Monday, November 18 from 10:30am to 12pm

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, JCC’s Bridget Giblin, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, and UMC’s Michele Musto as they host professional speakers on issues that impact a woman’s ability to live her best life. Join Dr. Samar Bursheh, MD, CCD, who specializes in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Weight Loss, as she shares her vast knowledge and experience with us. The discussion will include setting realistic, attainable, and maintainable healthy eating goals through the holidays and beyond. Also, you’ll learn about the latest in weight loss injections. Monday, November 18 from 1pm to 2:30pm

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, UMC’s Michele Musto, and JCC’s Bridget Giblin for a gathering of Caregivers of loved ones with Dementia and the person living with the disease. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one will enjoy a socialization activity. Light refreshments will be served. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. RSVP by November 11.

Memory Café: Ocean City

Tuesday, November 26 from 10:30am to 12pm

Caregivers and their loved ones living with Dementia are invited to join Village and UMC representatives in a Dementia friendly space. Experience creativity and social connections through art, music, gentle movements, and more. Attend in-person at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City. RSVP by November 22.
